Woman Lawyer Brutally Assaulted in Maharashtra’s Beed District Over Noise Pollution Complaint

A woman lawyer was allegedly assaulted by a village sarpanch and his supporters in Maharashtra's Beed district after she lodged a complaint with the police regarding noise pollution. The incident, which occurred on Friday morning in Sangaon village of Ambajogai tehsil, has sparked widespread condemnation and political backlash.

According to police, the victim, identified as Dnyaneshwari Anjan, a practising advocate at the Ambajogai sessions court, was attacked with wooden sticks and iron pipes by the village head and his associates. The brutal assault reportedly took place after Anjan objected to loud noise emanating from a nearby temple and registered a complaint with the local police.

Images of her severely bruised back, shared on social media, quickly went viral, triggering outrage among the public and political leaders across Maharashtra.

A case has been registered against 10 individuals in connection with the assault, the police confirmed. However, as of now, no arrests have been made. The incident is being investigated by Yusuf Wadgaon police.

Political leaders have strongly condemned the attack and criticized the ruling government for its alleged failure to ensure women’s safety.

Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal called the incident a “shameful failure” of the BJP-led government. “If a woman lawyer is not safe, what can ordinary citizens expect? The administration must act swiftly and arrest the accused,” he said, targeting Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio.

NCP (Sharad Pawar) MP Amol Kolhe also denounced the incident, calling it a blot on Maharashtra’s progressive legacy. “This attack on a woman for raising her voice against noise pollution is a grim reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The chief minister must intervene and restore public faith in the system,” he said.

The incident has once again brought into focus the safety of women and the effectiveness of the current administration in handling such cases. As public outrage mounts, demands for swift justice and accountability are growing louder.
