According to Gurugram Police, the incident occurred on April 6, when the 46-year-old victim, a flight attendant from West Bengal, was admitted to the hospital following an illness. She was in a semi-conscious state when the alleged assault took place.
Gurugram Police received a complaint of sexual assault on April 14 and promptly registered an FIR. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, aided by eight specialized teams. Authorities reviewed footage from over 800 CCTV cameras and questioned several members of the hospital staff as part of the investigation.
Arpit Jain, DCP Headquarters, Gurugram Police, said, “We received information of sexual assault on April 14 at a private hospital. Gurugram Police filed an FIR immediately and began the investigation. After questioning hospital staff and analysing CCTV footage, the accused, a resident of Bihar, was arrested.”
The accused, who had been employed at the hospital as a technician for the past five months, was on the run for four days before being apprehended in Gurugram.
In her statement, the victim alleged that around 9 PM on April 6, two nurses had entered the ICU to change her clothes and bedsheet. During this time, she heard a male voice asking the nurses for inventory details. She further stated that the man questioned one of the nurses about the size of her waistband, saying he would check it himself. The victim, although semi-conscious, said she felt the man place his hand under the bedsheet and digitally raped her.
The victim had arrived in Gurugram on March 31 for a training programme conducted by an airline operator in Darbaripur, Sector 75. She fell ill after swimming in the pool at the hotel where she was staying and was subsequently admitted to Medanta Hospital.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and further details are awaited. The police have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused.
