The Mathematics paper, originally scheduled for March 21 as part of the Higher Secondary first-year examinations, was leaked ahead of time, prompting the authorities to cancel the exam and initiate a police investigation. A formal complaint was lodged with the CID, which subsequently traced the leak using digital payment records and student testimonies.
"During the investigation, UPI transactions and statements from several students revealed that the accused had leaked the question paper in exchange for money," a CID official said.
The CID presented the accused before the court, which remanded him to police custody. Officials also disclosed that he had previously been arrested in two separate cases related to theft and kidnapping.
The leak of the Mathematics paper triggered widespread disruption in the examination process. Reports of similar leaks from various locations across the state led the board to cancel all remaining examinations scheduled between March 24 and 29. A total of 36 subject papers were affected by the decision.
According to Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, 18 schools, including three government-run institutions, were found to have broken the official security seal of the question papers a day before the scheduled examination. In response, the ASSEB suspended the affiliation of 15 private schools across 10 districts for violating examination protocols.
The Class 11 examinations began on March 6 and were scheduled to conclude on March 29 before the disruption caused by the leak.
